AidData Raw

Donors, partner countries, private donors and international organizations are increasingly making information on their activities available to the public. These data are in a variety of formats, with different fields and units of analysis to suit the various needs of each organization and its constituencies. AidData Raw is a repository for this information, to complement the standardized data in the main AidData database. In AidData Raw, users can find the freshest information—including datasets that have not yet been vetted by the AidData team, or that may not follow the same format as the searchable database. It offers a new, multidimensional view of aid activities, and a central place to search for the latest information on development finance—just browse the types of datasets listed to the left.

This is a prototype version of AidData Raw. A new and improved version, with a search function and other features, is currently under development.

Why Raw?

There is a rigorous quality control process to vet and standardize data before including it in the main AidData database. As a result, there is an unavoidable lag between the receipt of data from a donor or secondary source and its ultimate publication in AidData’s main database. AidData Raw serves as an interim location where the original data can be retrieved for use by the public. Therefore, the datasets listed here may be more timely than the information in the main database. In addition to serving as a holding tank for data that have not yet entered the main repository, AidData Raw is also home to datasets that provide an alternate view of activities for a certain donor, or different types of information that are not suitable for inclusion in the main database.

How to use AidData Raw

These datasets come from a variety of sources. Some datasets provide a combination of information retrieved by AidData from the donor itself—e.g. financial details or descriptive information—and additional sector, activity, or geographical codes applied by AidData staff.

Datasets included in AidData Raw are not necessarily comparable to those in the main AidData database or to each other, and may not be formatted per accepted international standards, such as that of the CRS or IATI. Users should be aware that these datasets are intended for isolated use, and should not be combined with each other, nor should they be used as definitive sources of information.  If you have a question about the appropriate use of a particular dataset in AidData Raw, please contact us at info@aiddata.org.
