Maps provide perhaps the most intuitive view of donor activities, helping to answer “who is doing what, where?” They are also a powerful tool for aid transparency, providing a simple and powerful platform that serves as a mashup tool for activities by donors, government, civil society, and beneficiaries, helping to close the feedback loop long absent in developing countries. By providing up-to-date and detailed information on local activities, maps can bring us one step closer to understanding the true impact of aid activities on neighborhoods, and ultimately, individuals.
To date, AidData has geocoded more than 3,000 active aid projects working in more than 35,000 locations across 144 recipient countries. Geocoding partners include the World Bank Institute, African Development Bank, Climate Change and African Political Stability (CCAPS) Program, and Malawi Ministry of Finance.
