Call for Posters: China's Growing Influence, June 2022

Are you a William & Mary student who researches China's global influence? Apply to present your work at a high-level convening!

From June 22-24, William & Mary will host a select group of policymakers, scholars, business and civil society leaders from around the globe to better understand China's growing reach. Discussions will center around the form and function of Chinese overseas engagements, implications for low-income and middle-income countries, and possible responses from the US and its partners. The convening will showcase cutting-edge policy research, build a robust network of stakeholders devoted to this topic, and seek to stimulate evidence-informed dialogue among leaders and thinkers, leading to practical action.

We invite submissions for poster presentations from William & Mary students from all backgrounds and schools whose research assesses China’s global influence. The posters can address any aspect of the subject, but we are particularly interested in research that can speak to three tracks the conferees will prioritize. Track 1 is “Bankrolling Development — Geoeconomics during the BRI and Build Back Better World Era.” Track 2 is “Projecting Influence — Soft and Sharp Power to Shape Popular Opinion, Leader Behavior, and the International Order.” Track 3 is “Contested Cooperation — Collective Action in an Era of Great Power Competition.”

Presenters will gain an exclusive opportunity to directly engage key global decision-makers around their own research and contribute ideas that can help shape the future of global development. Poster presentations will occur during the first two days of the conference, June 22-23.

Applications must include a 250-350 word proposal of their topic. We strongly encourage applicants to highlight the conceptual and methodological novelty of their contributions and the policy implications of their findings. Please also identify the most relevant track for your submission.

The deadline for submission is April 30. A digital slide of the poster will be due June 1. The Global Research Institute (GRI) will pay for all printing costs associated with the posters.
