Graphic Design Intern
AidData’s Partnerships and Communications (PComms) team is hiring for a graphic design intern for summer 2022, with the possibility of continuation into the fall and spring semesters. The graphic design intern will play a key role in assisting the PComms team with designing and formatting reports, infographics, data visualizations, and social media and web assets. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about multiple research streams in international development and will gain experience in producing high-quality graphic assets in support of a major research lab. AidData’s reports are regularly cited by media including the New York Times, BBC, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post, and AidData staff frequently brief policymakers, including officials at the US Treasury, White House, World Bank, and IMF, on its reports and research.

AidData is located at William & Mary’s Global Research Institute in Williamsburg, VA, but this position can be fully remote or hybrid remote/in-office. Important: For employees new to William & Mary's payroll, HR requires I-9s to be processed in person; the candidate must be able to come to Williamsburg, VA to complete their I-9. The intern will report to AidData’s Communications Specialist. Starting pay is $12/hour. The intern is expected to work ~20 hours per week over the summer, with a start date in mid June.
Responsibilities
- Provide design and formatting support for AidData’s publications, including reports, policy briefs, and working papers
- Design and create innovative graphic assets
- Conceptualize, create, and edit video products (preferred but not required)
- Maintain and update design guides and templates for publications
Skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop (other Adobe Creative Cloud apps, especially Premiere Pro and After Effects, are a bonus, but not required)
- Proficiency with Mac and its associated apps (Pages, Numbers, Keynote)
- Proficiency in Word and Powerpoint
- HTML and CSS knowledge is a bonus
