Research Assistant: Environmental Impacts of China’s Belt & Road Initiative

Based on the Global Chinese Development Finance Dataset Version 2.0, AidData’s Chinese Development Finance Program is conducting research on the environmental impacts of BRI projects. This includes evaluating whether proximity to coal-fired power plants, transmission lines, or highways adversely affects public health outcomes of local communities, hampers biodiversity, or causes significant deforestation.

The ideal candidate would have demonstrated interest in environmental policy and the form and function of China’s overseas development finance program. Prior experience conducting systematic reviews of academic and/or gray literature, Chinese language skills, and familiarity with AidData’s TUFF methodology, would be a plus.

Application Instructions

To apply, please send your CV, short writing sample, and a one-page writing explaining your interest and suitability for this role to amalik@aiddata.wm.edu. The deadline to apply is September 1st, but we will interview candidates on a rolling basis.
