Tracking Underreported Financial Flows (TUFF) Internship — Summer 2024

The Tracking Underreported Financial Flows (TUFF) team at AidData, housed at the Global Research Institute (GRI) at William & Mary, is hiring Research Assistants (RAs) to work on a project funded by USAID in Summer 2024.

Research Assistants will play a key role in assembling the world's most comprehensive dataset on Chinese official financial flows. Work will include but is not limited to: identifying new Chinese financing, scraping government documents, and synthesizing information found via open source data collection into narrative descriptions. Some work will focus on geospatial data collection. Your work will assist policymakers at USAID and other partner institutions in better understanding the scale and scope of development and commercial finance from nontraditional donors.

Students from all backgrounds at William & Mary are welcome to apply to the internship. Proficiency in foreign languages is a plus, especially in Chinese, Spanish, French, and Arabic. The best TUFF Research Assistants are those with solid writing skills, strong time management, and the ability to extract key information from extensive sources.

Research Assistants (RAs) are expected to work for a minimum of 30 hours per week during the Summer 2024 semester. The starting pay rate is $12 per hour. Experienced RAs are eligible for promotions and corresponding pay increases up to $15/hr. All interns must be based in the U.S. to be hired into paid positions.
