GeoQuery Internship – Data Documentation

AidData’s GeoQuery tool enables individuals and organizations without significant computing power or data science expertise to freely find and aggregate high-quality spatial data into a single, simple-to-use file. The AidData Partnerships and Communications (PComms) team is seeking support to investigate and identify gaps in the documentation of geospatial datasets available through GeoQuery, and conduct desk research to improve the GeoQuery user experience.

The intern will gain experience improving a front-facing web tool that has helped users at more than 800 development, academic, and non-profit organizations worldwide gain access to better spatial data. The intern will test GeoQuery as a naive user; learn to critically read dataset documentation for information gaps; and develop recommendations for improvements. All current William & Mary students are eligible, though we specifically encourage students with meticulous note-taking skills and an interest or experience in GIS, Data Science, or International Relations to apply. Hourly rate of $8 per hour, with an anticipated workflow of 5-10 hours per week.

Application Instructions

To apply, please email Soren Patterson (spatterson@aiddata.org), AidData Communications Associate, with a resume and cover letter. Please put “AidData GeoQuery Intern” as the email subject line. First review of applicants is October 7.
