Junior Program Manager (TDF)

The Junior Program Manager (JPM) is a research staff position at AidData. JPM positions are designed for college graduates who would like to: deepen and broaden their analytical, methodological, and management skills; receive on-the-job training and mentoring from a group of professional staff and researchers; and prepare for future professions in academia, public service, and/or the private sector. Each JPM divides his or her time between research project management and other specialized research, analysis, and policy outreach activities. Specialized duties are assigned based on the skills, interests, and experiences of the incumbent. JPMs play an important role in helping AidData expand its reach and impact in coordination with a variety of institutional partners, such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Bank, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Humanity United, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

This position is located at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. This is a full-time position, and salary is commensurate with experience up to the midpoint of U5 (see Salary Structure for University Employees).

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Political Science, GIS, Computer Science, a related degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to balance “big picture” thinking with attention to detail
  • Proven ability to undertake diverse and complex assignments with minimal supervision and resolve competing demands.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding and complex work environment, to carry out assignments in a timely manner, and to adapt to changing situations and priorities
  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills, and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of researchers, clients, partners, data users, and staff

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in one of AidData’s coding methodologies
  • Familiarity with current issues in open data, open government, and international development
  • Experience in project management
  • Strong commitment to and understanding of AidData’s mission and goals
  • Professional or academic experience in developing countries
  • Experience dealing with researchers and the global development community
  • Working knowledge of R, STATA, SPSS, or other statistical software
